Abstract:Englishhasbeenaveryimportantsubjectinschoollearningnowadays.

Primarystagehasbeenabasicpartofthestudents’EnglishlearningandEnglish

isusedasakeytotheworldasitscommunicativefeature.Cooperativelearning

canhelpstudentslearnnotonlyEnglishknowledgebutalsolearningskills.

I.Themeaningofgroupassignment

Cooperativelearninghighlightsthecultivationofpersonalresponsibilityandcollectivesenseofhonor.Sotheimportanceofgroupassignmentisurgent.

First,itenhancesstudents'interactionandsenseofcommunity.Duetothis,thestudentsinthewholeclasswilllearnfromeachotherandimprovetheirEnglishaswellastheteacher’steachingabilitybecausethepassiontheylearnEnglishwillpushtheteachertomakebetterteaching.

Second,itmakesthestudentsknowwhattheyaregoodatinthesmallgroupwhichisimportanttopromoteeveryone’sability.Asweallknow,eachstudenthasadifferentabilityandwhattheyaregoodataredifferent.Whentheymakeagreatprogressinthegroup,theirteammemberswillknowwhattolearnandwhattodo.

II.Theearlystageofmyassignment

AsaprimaryschoolEnglishteacher,Iusuallyhavefourtofiveclassesinagrade,whichmeansIwillhavemorethan220studentstoteach.That’salargenumberandthatmakesmyworkdifficulttodobecauseIwillhavetochecksomanystudents’homework,includingreading,writingandrecitation.Whatagreatjobtocheckalltheworkonlybymyself.SowhenIgotmyfiveclassesingradethree,Inumberedmystudentsandputthemfiveinagroup.Eachgrouphadateamleaderwhowouldcheck

thehomeworkoftheotherfourstudents.Thismeanttheleaderswouldcheckallthereading,writingandrecitationworkoftherestfour.

Afteraboutonesemester,almosthalfoftheteamleaderswantedtoquitbecausetheythoughttheyhadsomuchworktodo.What’smore,theyfounditdifficulttocheckthebackwardstudentsastheyoftencouldn’tfinishtheirtaskontime.

Thiskindofassignmentstillcostmealotoftimerecheckingtheirhomeworkandtosomeextent,thestudents’abilitydidn’tgetimproved.Theleaderscouldn’tseetheefficiencyoftheirworkaswellasme.

It’sanunsuccessfulassignmenttomyclassmanagement.

III.Thechangeofmyassignment

Withthehelpofmyearlyrecording,theleaders’feedbackaswellasmyclassobservation,Ibegantorecordtheperformanceofeachstudentsineachgroupthesecondsemesterbymyself.IrecordedtheirperformanceineachpartofEnglishlearning,includingreading,writing,dictationandhabitofstudy.

Whengradefouriscoming,Iassignthestudentsstillfiveingroup.What’sdifferentfromtheearlyassignmentisthateachoneinthegroupisateamleader.Buttheleaderhashis\herowngoodpointinEnglishlearningorhavesomeimprovingspace.

Exercisebookleader:whohasanoverallmasterofEnglishlearning.(quicklyfindthemistakesoftheteammembersandgivethemsomeguidance)Dictationleader:whohasaterriblevocabularyabilityofEnglish

learning.(improvetheirvocabularylearningfromtheteammembers’dictationandrememberthewordsmoretimes)

Wheneachoftheleaderfinishonetask,theywillgetonecheckfromtheteacherwhichcangivethemachancetogetsomesmallgifts(stationery,candies,toys,nohomeworkonce,etc.)fromtheteacherandthat’swhattheylikemost.Afteroneyearoftrying,thetasksoftheteachergetless.Thetasksoftheteamleadersgeteasierandless.Thetasksofeachstudentsgetlessandmuchclearer.Students’Englishlearningabilitygetimproved.What’smore,thestudents’learninginterestsgetstrongerandstronger.
