andimprovedthequalityoflifeonEarth.Severalsocietalbenefitsarelinkedtonewknowledgeandtechnologyfrom
spaceexplorationsuchassolarpanels,satellitecommunications,globalpositioningsystem(GPS),andweather
forecasting.Thedevelopmentofsatellitetechnology,forexample,providesvaluableinformationaboutclimate
changesuchasthethinningoftheozonelayer,enablinggovernmentsaroundtheworldtotakeactiontoprotectthe
ozonelayerandmanageclimatechange.
Withtheexcitementandcuriositygenerated,spaceexplorationisattractingyoungpeopletocareersin
engineering,science,technology,andmathematics,whichhelpstoexpandtheglobalcapacityforinnovationsin
scienceandtechnology.Evenifinterestedyoungstersdonotendupinajobintheseareas,spacetechnologysparks
theirimaginationaboutthepossibilityoflifebeyondEarthandspacetravel.Spaceexplorationcontinuestoencourage

UniversityofFlorida,itcostsabout$500milliontolaunchaspaceshuttle,andmanyarguethatthismoneycouldbe
betterspentonsolvingtheproblemsonEarthsuchashunger,pollution,diseases,andclimatechange.Althoughspace
