January24,2023,attheageof95,leavingbehindafascinatinglegacy.

BornonAugust26,1927,inPune,southeastofMumbai,Doshigrewupwithhisfatherandgrandfather,a

furnituremaker.Asachildhecametoappreciatehowtheirhousegrewandchanged.In1947,shortlybeforeIndian

independence,hebeganarchitectureschool.However,heneverfinished,afactwhichhe*dlaterpointtoinlifeasan

advantage.HemarriedhiswifeKamalaParikhin1955.Whenshepassedaway,Doshilivedinahousehedesigned

andnamedforhisbelovedwife.

DoshiwasinfluencedbythefamousSwiss-FrencharchitectknownasLeCorbusier.Doshistudiedwithhimin

ParisandthenreturnedtoIndiatosupervisethearchitectsworkinAhmedabad.In1956,Doshifoundedhisown

firmcalledVastushilpa.Hetraveledtheworldlecturingatuniversities,workedwithotherfamousarchitects,and

evenfoundedtheCenterforEnvironmentalPlanningandTechnology(nowCEPTUniversity)focusingon

understanding,designing,planning,constructingandmanaginghumanhabitats.

“Wedidnotwanttoimitatesomeoneelse*sapproach,“hetoldtheLouisianaMuseumofModemArtin

2018."Wewantedtofindourownidentity.HedrewfromhisprideinIndianculturetocreateastyledistinctfrom

DMSO.TheteamworkedspecificallyonagroupofforeverchemicalswhichcontainalargepercentageofPFAS.

Astowhythisishappening,theresearcherssaythatthemostlikelymechanismisareductioninthehuman
