However,ourcurrenthealthsystemfaces

severalchallengesthatimpactthealignmentof

healthcareprovisionwithitsvisionarygoals.Thesechallengesinclude:

Demographictransition:Malaysiaisexperiencinganagingpopulation,withanexpectedshifttowardsan‘a(chǎn)ged’societyby2030,where15%ofthepopulationwillbeover60yearsold.1Thisdemographicchangerequiresastrategicfocusongeriatriccareand

managementofnon-communicablediseases(NCDs),whicharemoreprevalentinolderpopulations.

Riseofnon-communicablediseases(NCDs):Thereishighprevalenceofdiabetes(18.3%),hypertension(30%),andhypercholesterolemia(38.1%)in

Malaysia.Theseconditionsaremajorriskfactorsforcardiovasculardiseases(CVD).2ThehealthcarecostsassociatedwithmanagingCVDsaresubstantial,

emphasizingtheimportanceofprevention,healtheducation,andpromotinghealthylifestyles.

Healthcareaffordabilityandaccessibility:Ensuringaffordabilityandequitablehealthcareaccessfor

allremainsachallenge,especiallyforadvanced

treatmentsandmedications.Theseoftenremainoutof

reachforlow-andmiddle-incomefamilies.4,5
