Leehasbecomesowellknownforthisthatheisofteninvitedtokeynoteconferencesandconventions,whereheshareshismessageofunconditionallove.AtaconferenceinSanFrancisco,thelocalnewsmediachallengedhimbysaying,“Itiseasytogiveouthugshereintheconferencetopeoplewhoself-selectedtobehere.Butthiswouldneverworkintherealworld.” TheychallengedLeetogiveawaysomehugsonthestreetsofSanFrancisco.Followedbyatelevisioncrewfromthelocalnewsstation,Leewentoutontothestreet.Firstheapproachedawomanwalkingby.“Hi,I’mLeeShapiro,thehuggingjudge.I’mgivingouttheseheartsinexchangeforahug.”“Sure,”shereplied.“Tooeasy,”challengedthelocalcommentator.Leelookedaround.HesawametermaidwhowasbeinggivenahardtimebytheownerofaBMWtowhomshewasgivingaticket.Hemarcheduptoher,cameracrewintow,andsaid,“Youlooklikeyoucoulduseahug.I’mthehuggingjudgeandI’mofferingyouone.”Sheaccepted.
