TheuseofEPDMispreferredifthepartonlycomesintocontactwithcoolant,whiletheuseof

HNBRispreferredifthepartcomesintocontactwithbothcoolantandamineral-oil-basedmedium(e.g.,oil).

Theteststobeperformed,inthecontextofpresentingnewmaterials/mixtures/compoundsthatarepreviouslyunknownforthisapplication,mustbeperformedbothonstandardspecimenssampledfromtestpanelsandonareferenceo-ring.Thedimensionsofthereferenceo-ringmustbeagreeduponbeforehandwiththepurchaser'sMaterialsEngineeringdepartment.ThesurfacehardnessinIRHDmeasuredonthefinishedpartcandeviatemoderatelyfromthestandardspecification.Thedeviationsmustbeagreeduponwiththepurchaser'sMaterialsEngineeringdepartmentand,ifap-plicable,addedtothedrawing.

Inthecontextofpresenting(new)materials/mixtures/compoundsthatarepreviouslyunknownforthisapplication,thelow-temperaturecharacteristicsofglasstransitiontemperature(Tg)asper

4.5Cold-airbehavior

Testspecimensmuststillbeelasticafter22hoflow-temperatureaging.Nobreakingorcrackingmustbevisibleinbendtests.Thespecimens'dimensionsmustbeapprox.100mm×15mm;devi-atingspecimensmustbeagreedupon.Glovesand/orvice-grippliersmustbeusedduringthetest.Thepartsmustbebentwithin3to5suntiltheinnersurfacesattheendstouch.O-ringsaretestedatthepart.Forthis,theringmustbecutopenbeforeagingincoldairandpreparedlikethestripspecimen.Thebendtestisperformedinandagainstthedirectionofthecurvature.Deviations

mustbeagreeduponwiththeappropriatedepartment.

Wheretheshapeofthespecimendoesnotpermitbendingbyhand,thehardnessofthespecimenmustbe<90ShoreA(measuredafteraginginacoldchamber).

Deviationsmustbeindicatedinthedrawing.

Thehardnessisdeterminedbymeansofatestdeviceconditionedatlowtemperature.
