These advertisements are aimed at giving thepotential customers a lasting impression and persuading them to buytheir product. Therefore
5、, in order to express the ideas of the originalworks and realize the goal for sale, the translators should take account ofthe cultural elements and social elements in order to achieve functionalequivalence.This paper consists of three parts. The first part deals with the concept of fun ctio nal equi

The mainaim of fun ctional equivale nee is to represe nt the in formatio n of theoriginal work in the target Ianguage and achieve the equivale nee offunctions of Ian guages. In order to make this con cept clear, the authorgives a brief introduction of different

11、texts andtranslations. And the four important representatives of fun ctio nalismare Katharina Reiss, Hans J. Vermeer, Ju st a Holz-Mnttri and ChristianeNord. This thesis attempts to apply the core rules of Skopostheorie– ? to analyze the untranslatability of the Adventures of RobinsonCruso
12、e which is caused by cultural gaps, in the hope of gaining a betterunderstanding of literary translation from the perspective of functionalism.This paper is composed of four chapters. The first one isintroduction. Chapter 2 introduces the German Functionalism andtranslation theories including a brie

Chapter 3 goes over theapplication of the main translation theory Skopostheorie in analyzing theuntranslatability of the Adventures of Robinson Crusoe causing bycultural gaps with analyzing the culture factor in translation.
