).Ifseveralsurfaceprotectiontypesareapprovedforuseattheuser'sdiscretion,

Ifonlypartialprotectionisappliedtoaworkpiece,"Seedrawing"mustbeenteredinthetitleblockunder"Surfaceprotection",theaffectedareaonthepartmustbemarkedwithawidedash-dotline(

),andthecodemustbeindicatedwithadatumline.

Ifonlyasmallareaontheparthasnosurfaceprotection,thentheunprotectedareamustbemarked(

3.3Weldability

Ifpartswithsurfaceprotectionaretobeweldedtogetherwithoneanotherorwithothermetalparts,thenthepartsmustbetestedforweldability.

Ofl-c340mustbereservedasthestandardsurfaceprotectiontypeforweldingpartsinbodymanu‐facture(e.g.,forweldnuts).

3.4Agentsimpairingwettingability

Lubricantsandslushingoilsmustbefreeofsiliconeoilsandotheragentsthatsignificantlyimpairwettingability.

3.5Frictionbehavior

ThreadedpartswithametricISOthreadmuststaywithinthecoefficient-of-frictionrangein

VW01129

withintegratedoradditionallubricanttreatment.

Thelubricantmustbeneitherhazardoustotheuser'shealthnoremitanunpleasantodorduringthescrew-onprocess.Itmustalsobesuitableforautomatedbolting.

All-metalprevailingtorquetypenutsmustalwaysbetreatedwithanadditionalorintegratedlubri‐cant.Nutswithnon-metallicclampingmaybelubricatedinordertoachievethespecifiedfunctionalcharacteristics.Thefunctionalcharacteristicsofnutstreatedwithaprotectivecoatingand/orwitha

lubricantmustnotdeterioratewithinastorageperiodof6monthsinweather-shelteredrooms.Thestoragetemperaturemustbebetween-5°Cand40°C.

Fastenersmadeofstainlessorheat-resistantmaterialsmayrequireanadditionallubricanttreat‐mentinordertomeettherequirementsin

Theinfluenceofthesurfaceprotectiononthefrictionbehavior,particularlyforpartswithametricISOthread,mustbedeterminedbytestingandmatchedtotheperformancecharacteristics(see

3.7Screws,bolts,nuts,threadedparts,andmoldedparts

Forscrews,bolts,nuts,andsimilarthreadedpartsandmoldedparts,morestringenttestrequire‐mentsapplytothethread-freeareasthantothethreadprofileandshank.Detailsconcerningthetestrequirementsaredescribedintherelevantstandards.

Theapplicationoftheprotectivecoatingsmustnotresultinthehtolerancezonepositionbeingex‐ceededinthecaseofexternalthreadsortheHtolerancezonepositionnotbeingreachedinthe

caseofinternalthreads.

3.8Commercialsurfaceprotectiontypes

Commercialsurfaceprotectiontypesmaybeusedforlessimportantapplications(e.g.,steelwire).However,theyarenotsubjecttocorrosionresistancetesting.Ifsuchprotectionissufficientfora

givenpart,onlythecodeletterfortherespectiveprocedureandthenumbers010mustbeprovi‐ded.Thedesignationwillthenread,e.g.,forcommercialpaint:Ofl-x010.

Thecommercialsurfaceprotectiontypes,e.g.,Ofl-c010,"commercialzinccoating,"andOfl-r010,"commercialelectroplatedzincalloycoating,"mustnotcontainanyCr(VI)compounds.
