1Scope

Thisstandarddefinestherequirementsfortheflammabilityofnon-metallicmaterialsandforcom-ponentsthataremadefromthesematerialsforthewholevehicle.

Thisstandardappliestovehiclepartsthataremadeofnon-metallicmaterialsandthathavestricterflammabilityrequirementsthanthosein

TL1010

.

Theapplicabilityofthisstandardtononwovensandanti-noisecoversintheareaofpyrotechnicel-ementsmustbediscussedandagreeduponwiththeappropriateMaterialsEngineeringdepart-

ment.

fulfillstherequirementsin

UL94(TestsforFlammabilityofPlasticMaterialsforPartsinDevicesandApplications)publishedbyUnderwritersLaboratories(UL).

Atleast5finishedparts,oratleast5barspecimensforeachmaterialvariant,arerequiredforacompleteexamination.All5specimensmustfulfilltherequirement.

Theresultoftheburntestsonthecompositematerial(i.e.,specimensampledfromthecompo-

nent)specifiedinthedrawingcontributestothedecisiononamaterialrelease.Deviationsfromthetestproceduremustbespecifiedinthedrawing.

DeviatingspecimengeometriesmustbeagreeduponwiththeappropriateMaterialsEngineeringdepartmentandrecordedinthetestreport.

Thespecimensaresampledfromthefinishedpart.Specimenedgesmustbesmoothed.Ifitisnotpossibletotakesamplesfromthefinishedpart,thespecimenthicknessmustmatchthefinishedpart'swallthickness.

Ifthefinishedpart'swallthicknessesvary,afullexaminationmustbeconductedusingthemaxi-mumandminimumwallthicknesses.

Requirementsfortheburningtests

Anextractionsystemfortheflametestequipmentmayextracttheexhaustgasesproducedduringthetest,butmustnotinterferewiththeburnerflameorpreventtheformationofflamesonthe

specimenorcontributetotheflameonthespecimenincreasinginsizeorspreading.Forthispur-pose,aseparatecombustionchamberinafumehood(flue)isrecommended.

Eachofthe5specimensissupportedverticallyatitstopendwithaclampinglengthof6mmalongitslongitudinalaxisandexposedtotheflamefor15swithaBunsenburner(see

figure1

).

Requirementsforthetestflametobeused:
