Becauseofmybusyschoolandworktimetable,Iwasonlyabletovolunteertheretwice.But,besidestheownerandhisfamily,IwasthefirstChinesevolunteer.Myrolewastohelptherefugeesfilloutregistration(登記)papers.Sometimes,itwasdifficultwiththelanguagebarrier,butthereweretranslatorstohelp.

OnecoldafternoonwhenPeterwaseightyearsold,hismotheraskedhimtodeliversomecakesshebakedtohisblindfriendwholivedacrossthedike.Peterstayedwithhimforawhile,sharedhisexperienceofthewalkanddescribedthesun,theflowers,andtheshipsfaroutinthesea.
Thenhefounditwasdarktotally.Sohesaidgoodbyetohisfriendandsetoutforhomeimmediately.Onhiswayback,ashewalkedbesidethecanal,henoticedthatthewaterhadrisenalotbecauseofrainanditwasbeatingagainstthedikeviolently.
AsPeterwaswalkingalong,hesuddenlyheardanoiseoftrickling(滴流的)water.Hestoppedandsawasmallholeinthedikethroughwhichatinystreamwasflowing.Peterknewthedangerthatcouldbecausedasthelittleholewouldsoonbecomealargeroneandthewholecountrycouldbeflooded.Soheclimbeddownthesideofthedikeandputhisfingerintothetinyhole.Theflowingofthewaterstoppedinnotime.
